Cattle in the shed now covered by CCTV

At calving, checking cattle through the night means a lot of walks across the yard. A camera in the shed lets you look in from the house first, on your phone, and go out when you are needed.

The usual obstacle is the shed itself. It often has no internet, and it is too far from the house for the WiFi to reach. We get round that with a point-to-point wireless link, which carries your house network across the yard to the barn without a cable in the ground.

CASE STUDY

A recent job near Lisburn

A farmer near Lisburn wanted to keep an eye on his cattle, and on the cows close to calving in particular, without going out to the shed every time.

The barn is about 60 metres from the house and had no internet. We fitted a point-to-point wireless link between the two, which extends the existing network to the barn. In the shed we fitted three cameras, and put the recorder in a weatherproof enclosure.

He now watches the shed live on his phone, day and night. The calf in the photo was a few hours old on the day we fitted the system.

What we install on farms

Calving and livestock cameras
Cameras inside the shed, placed so you can see the pens that matter, with a picture you can check from the house or from anywhere else on your phone.
Wireless links to barns and sheds
A point-to-point wireless link carries your existing network to a building that has no internet, without digging a cable across the yard.
Yard, gate and machinery cameras
Cameras covering the lane, the yard, fuel tanks and machinery sheds, recorded so you can look back at what happened and when.
Equipment protected from the shed
Recorders and network equipment are housed in weatherproof enclosures, away from dust, damp and livestock.

Frequently asked questions

Can I watch my cattle from my phone?

Yes. You can see the cameras live, and look back at recordings, from anywhere your phone has an internet connection.

My shed has no internet. Can it still have cameras?

In most cases, yes. A point-to-point wireless link needs a clear line of sight between the house and the shed. On a recent job near Lisburn the link covered about 60 metres. Where there is no line of sight, we look at a cable route or another way round.

Do the cameras work at night?

Yes. The cameras we fit give a picture in the dark, so you can check the shed at night from your phone.

Will dust and damp damage the equipment?

The cameras are made for outdoor use, and the recorder goes in a weatherproof enclosure to keep out dust and damp.

Do you only cover Lisburn?

No. We work on farms across Counties Antrim, Armagh and Down.
